SOUTHERN ANGOLA FISHERIES AND ECOLOGY

The Southern Angolan research platform has been running for 13 years (2005 – 2018), in an attempt to collect information on various aspects relating to the unique marine fish fauna found in the region. Current research focus on understanding the taxonomic status, life histories, movement behaviour and economic contribution of the most important fisheries species found in both the tropical and temperate marine regions of the country. An exciting development occurred in 2013 after a loan of 39 acoustic receivers was secured from the Canadian based Ocean Tracking Network which are currently being used to monitor the movement and migration patterns of both large fish and sharks.
