Matthew W Farthing
Broadly speaking I am a fisheries socio-ecologist with a wide range of research interests, but I have a strong focus on catch-and-release, angler behaviour, conservation psychology and the science-policy interface. I am especially passionate about the South African linefishery, and particualry interested in how recreational anglers interact with fisheries resources within the socio-ecological system. I am motivated to affect meanigful change through pragmatic and wholistic research where I aspire to better incorporate the human dimension into strategic conservation and managment actions. I serve on the DFFE Line and Netfish Scientific Working Group, the ICES Working Group on Recreational Fisheries Surveys, the IUCN Croaker and Drum Red List Authority and the IUCN SSC South African Species Specialist Group.
