Kibrom Tekeste
My journey in fisheries management began at the Department of Marine Biology and Fisheries at Asmara University, where I developed a deep connection to aquatic ecosystems. This passion shaped my commitment to sustainability, leading me through diverse roles in inspection, aquaculture, industrial fishing, and research. From gaining firsthand experience as an onboard inspector with the Eritrean Ministry of Marine Resources to working as a biologist in intensive shrimp aquaculture at Seawater Farms Eritrea, each step has been a lesson in the complexities of fisheries. As a coordinator and later manager, I facilitated foreign fishing agreements and oversaw fish processing operations, all while actively contributing to stock assessments and national fisheries policies to strengthen marine resource governance. Yet, my thirst for deeper knowledge led me to DIFS, where I have spent an exceptional year expanding my understanding, challenging my perspectives, and refining my ability to contribute meaningfully to sustainable fisheries. This journey of learning and growth continues, and I remain committed to the oceans and the communities that depend on them, embracing the future with curiosity, dedication, and purpose.
