Having grown up by the coast, I have always felt a deep connection with the ocean, nature and animals. Spending time in these environments sparked my strong curiosity about marine life and a strong desire to work outdoors. Although I was unsure of what career path to follow, after discovering the Ichthyology Department at Rhodes University in my second year I have been able to follow my love for marine ecosystems and animals. I am currently completing my Honours degree with a focus on spawning locations of dusky kob (Argyrosomus japonicus), where I hope to contribute to a better understanding of the species and contribute to the Kob conservation strategy.
